Itineraries Vol. 1, Two Things

WELL TRAVELED

A veteran’s to-do list is best thrown together when telling people you just moved, as opposed to visiting. Forums catered to new residents have everything the locals do on a weekend which will make your trip feel more authentic. Ask your Uber driver what the born-and-raised’s do and what places they avoid. Our LA driver let us know very quickly that the dress code was black, you have to know someone for decent nightlife, and the complaint we anticipated…we’d be on the road forever.

When in doubt Reddit new resident pages (or breakdowns like this elaborate post for Philly) and YouTube comment sections - not necessarily the videos - will let you know which restaurants are overrated and where to sip.

NOVICE

What in the world to do? Where to start?

Google Maps icons, Lonely Planet, and Airbnb Experiences highlight everything you’ll find on a postcard, print travel guide etc. Plenty will suggest tours, and unless it’s Chicago’s Architecture Cruise or LA’s Hood Life Tour, skip.

I joke. However, make sure before signing up for ANY tour it comes HIGHLY recommended, is actually worth the price when compared to a self-guided version, and doesn’t last longer than necessary. Tours can be quick money grabs or very informative. Read negative reviews (1-2 star) to see if there’s a pattern, and see how long the tour has been in operation.

Finally, check out the She Was There category.
