New York for the First Time, Nine Things

STAY

Stay in Manhattan. Someone will not convince you to journey from the cheap place they found in Queens. Or Brooklyn. Choose Hell’s Kitchen, far from Times Square, or the Lower East Side. And always look at square footage.

WEAR

Nothing showing bare toes. Outside just won’t allow it. Black.

DON’TS

Sit down on a subway seat without first examining. Play cards with anyone in Times Square. If you’re anything like my friend you will. And then have the nerve to get mad after. Another story for another day. Speak negatively of Junior’s Cheesecake. The Knicks. Really, any local sports team. Ask indirect questions. Step in puddles. Pronounce Houston like the rest of us when referring to the street, it’s “HOUSE-ton”.

RBF

On the subway at night.

THEY HAVEN’T BEEN TO THE STATUE OF LIBERTY

I mean I never went to the Perot when living in Dallas.
