Emporium Pies, Why People Live in Dallas
THE DRUNKEN NUT
My absolute favorite is available all year long. The bourbon pecan pie. I want some… right now.
P.S. Four articulations in the US by region. 1. P’cahn 2. Pee-can 3. P’can 4. Pee-Cahn. “Pee-can” is filled with southern hospitality, “P’cahn” is the right way to pronounce it once over 30, and the last two are forgiven.
DR. LOVE
My gift for Mother’s Day, and she ate the whole pie in two days. I always insist people try a slice, then she immediately asked for mine. It is a red velvet chess pie. That’s a chess pie, plus red and velvet. After having one, I complained less (only a little) about none of the three locations investing in a decent parking lot. Well, that’s all of Dallas. Non-dairy people should know there are swirls of cream cheese in this one.
DROP DEAD GOURDJEOUS
It is a cute name. Brought it down for Thanksgiving, but we did not share it with anyone after my immediate family had some. It was hidden and brought back out after everyone left. It has spice, smoothness, and just-sweet-enough-ness. All slices are $8.
BLUE STEEL
Not too tart, not too sweet, not too runny. And for texture people: berries not too bubbly or rubbery! This blueberry pie with a hint of lemon + a lattice top is available in the spring. My very healthy addition to the rotation.
They have a rotating menu plus three staples.
